Helping to expedite and simplify the inkjet printing process, this download version of PrinTao 8 from LaserSoft Imaging is an all-inclusive software for Mac OS X 10.9 or later and dedicated to select Canon 60″ printers. Residing within a single-window intuitive interface, this program offers complete support for managing and maintaining accurate color profiles and print settings for consistent results. A Start-Pilot feature automatically guides you through the entire process, including selecting print mediums and printer types, as well as choosing different templates and guidelines for fitting several photographs into a single print in the most paper-efficient manner. The interface also offers direct access to local folders, as well as pre-populated image libraries from different editing programs, and built-in Media Manager, Printer Assistant, and Queue Manager tools further aid the process by giving you complete control in an easily navigable manner. PrinTao 8 removes the complexity of manually managing all aspects of the printing process and consolidates everything into a single printing workflow solution.
Beyond maintaining proper color and accounting for different materials and printers being used, PrinTao 8’s main assets lie in its ability to help reduce wasted paper by intelligently laying out each print with specific templates. Different designs can be used to help reduce blank paper, minimize the number of cuts needed, or to increase printing efficiency when producing several prints of the same image. A resolution slider helps to assure maintained quality when creating differently sized images from the original file and frames and guidelines can also be manually positioned for creating unique printing guides; all of which can be saved for repeatable use.
Printer Compatibility
This Canon 60″ Edition of PrinTao 8 is dedicated to use with the following printers only:
Canon iPF 9400
Canon iPF 9400s
Intuitive Interface
Set within a single window for intuitive operation, PrinTao 8 helps to expedite the entire printing process by keeping the work space neat with all of the essential controls easily accessible. Its design matches the Mac OS X environment and it is a 64-bit Cocoa application designed to take full advantage of multi-core processors for enhanced performance and speed. The interface is comprised for four elements:
Mediathek – This region offers in-program file navigation and displays personal folders as well as image libraries from Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, Apple iPhoto, and Apple Aperture.
Metadata – Beneath the Mediathek is a region dedicated to displaying the highlighted images’ metadata.
Central Working Area – Taking up the majority of the window, the central working area shows the actual print media and how the images will be placed for a specific print.
Tool Sidebar – To the far right of the window, a sidebar allows for quick access to all of the necessary tools, features, and controls, including tools for adjusting the layout, image properties, and printer settings.
Start-Pilot
Helping to expedite and streamline the printing process, the Start-Pilot serves as a wizard-like protocol for creating new documents. From this feature you can select the specific printer model in use, paper type, print media size, and paper feed. Additionally, any settings chosen will be remembered for subsequent prints, and can be recalled for new documents with a single click.
Smart Media Integration
Beyond offering direct access to existing Lightroom, iPhoto, Aperture libraries, and local folders, PrinTao 8 is also compatible with the PrinTao 8 IC (Image Connector) app to permit direct printing from iOS devices.
Built-In Color Management
Color management settings are based on a renowned color engine with special dedication on accuracy, consistency, and performance. Using the ISO-approved International Color Consortium (ICC) standard, PrinTao’s color management is able to take advantage of the printers’ full color gamut with repeatable results assured. ICC output profiles for genuine and third party media can be automatically added and managed using the Media Manager, which culls updates from PrinTao 8’s online profile server for regular additions and expansions. Additionally, custom ICC profiles can also be imported and managed from within the program.
The intelligent color management system with embedded profile detection automatically matches the embedded source profile of any imported image to the correct output profile to correctly match the media type, ink, and print quality being used.
Template System
A dedicated tool palette contains a number of pre-defined templates for laying out the final print output. Available templates include ones for arranging multiple images within one print in grid formations, templates for photographers who want to provide their clients with packages of images in different standard sizes, templates for the free placement of images, and customizable template settings.
Even if images have been imported, the template can be altered prior to printing and the images will automatically be re-positioned according to the constraints of the new template, including adding additional pages to the document if necessary. Additionally, an intelligent algorithm efficiently places imagery about the final output size in order to minimize the amount of wasted paper space.
Pack Templates
Dedicated to printing multiple sizes of a single image, a variety of pack templates are available that help to conserve the total amount of paper used. Especially beneficial for portrait photographers or others delivering several print sizes to a client, these templates allow you to import a single image and select the different print sizes needed of the photograph. The software will then arrange the individual photographs efficiently within the determined output size. If printing several packs of the same image, a Best Fit option is available to further stagger your photographs across multiple prints to save even more paper.
Best Cut
The Best Cut mode is dedicated to photographers looking to save time and effort when trimming multiple photographs from a single print. Using this mode, along with space-saving templates, images are printed full bleed and edge-to-edge in order to reduce the total number of cuts needed during the final trimming process. Even when photos of different sizes are being printed, the intelligent algorithm will position each image to minimize the amount of final cutting time.
Best Fit
Designed to help save paper, this mode will position and rotate photographs in order to eliminate wasted paper space when printing several photographs on a single print.
Resolution Slider
Displayed beneath any selected image, the unique resolution slider control displays whether or not the resolution of an image is sufficient for the selected printing size using a yellow, green, and red scale.
Since printers will interpolate data to fit any print size, while still maintaining 300 or 360 dpi print resolutions, images that do not fall within the desired range will often incur unwanted pixelization or artifacting due to mismatched resolutions. This easy-to-understand scale helps to recognize when an image’s resolution is suitable for printing at a specified size and resolution.
Media Manager
Helping to manage a wide variety of paper profiles, the built-in Media Manager avails online access to a constantly updated and expanding database of paper profiles. Within the online database, you can select the specific paper types you use most often and easily download and install the profiles for use. The database is continuously updated as new papers become available.
Manual Cutting Mode
For complete manual control over where trim marks should be placed within a print, this mode allows you to account for passe-partouts or borders within prints, as well as specify where trim and crop marks should be, which is especially beneficial to printers that support roll media.
Frames and Guidelines
When utilizing free layout templates, guidelines can be used for positioning photographs within a print. Different guidelines can be applied, including along the middle axes of a print, image edges, print edges, and manually set guidelines, and, once placed, images will automatically snap to the correct position.
Printer Assistant
This dedicated assistant automatically detects which printers are connected to the computer via USB or are located within the same network as the computer, and are applicable based on the specific printer-dedicated license in use. Once a printer has been detected, its drivers can be installed with a single click. This system works for both existing and new printers, and will also automatically download any associated color profiles for papers from the printer manufacturer.
Queue Manager
Within this specific dialogue you can gain an overview of all of the queued print jobs, manage specific jobs, and change the printing sequence order. Printers and jobs can be stopped completely from this interface and resumed at a later time, and jobs can also be paused and continued separately.
